2022 Volkswagen ID.4 vs 2022 Tesla Model 3

Both the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Tesla Model 3 are some of the more affordable electric vehicles available today, but they come in opposite packaging. The Model 3 is more of a traditional 4-door sedan while the ID.4 is an SUV, yet they both offer a similar maximum driving range. The small details are where the ID.4 shines, and it offers substantially more cargo capacity, additional room to make your passengers comfortable, and a slightly quicker charging time (on 240V). If you need to do more than ‘Keep Up with the Joneses”, then there really is no comparison at all. The Volkswagen ID.4 offers more space, a nearly identical range, and all with a more reasonable price tag.

1HomeStationLevel 2 wallbox, can deliver charging speeds of up to 9.6kW under the 40 amp configuration – 6.8 times faster than on a Level 1 charger. This means capable vehicles can add up to 33 miles of range per hour while charging on the HomeStation. The HomeStation can be plugged in using a NEMA 14-50 style plug or hardwired by a licensed and qualified electrician.

2Claim based on driving 15,000 miles per year, using EPA fuel economy estimates for ID.4 and EPA assumptions for MY21 vehicles of $2.70 per gallon of gasoline, $0.13 kW-hr for electric charging and an average gasoline vehicle fuel economy of 27 MPG Combined City/Highway. Assumes home charging of ID.4. Actual savings, if any, will vary and depend on several factors including location, driving and charging habits, fuel price fluctuations, temperature and topography, accessory use, battery age, load, and vehicle condition.

3ID.4 equipped with fast charging capability maximum rate of 125kW. Based on charging at a 125kW or higher charger. Charging times will vary and depend on a variety of factors, including ambient temperature, charger type, battery condition and initial state of charge, vehicle condition and others. Frequent and consecutive fast charging can permanently decrease battery capacity.
