What are keyless entry systems for cars or trucks?
Passive remote entry systems, sometimes known as keyless entry systems, allow for a variety of life-changing perks. The most popular bonus of a keyless entry system is the convenience it provides. Depending on the version of keyless entry installed on your vehicle, you can be loaded down with groceries and still get the hatch open with a wave of your foot. Just press a button and go, no more struggling to get the key into the door lock. Another big advantage of keyless entry is the increased security it provides. The key has electronics inside that must be recognized by your car before it will allow access or start the engine. There are some keyless entry systems that can automatically lock your doors as you walk away from the vehicle. Lastly, there’s the fun part of keyless entry, remote ignition. You’ll feel like an everyday wizard when you press a button on your remote and see your car start.
All Passive Entry systems are keyless entry, but not all Keyless Systems are passive. Here’s how it functions. Keyless Entry involves the car owner pushing buttons on the key fob to unlock and lock the car and other features like opening the hatch. Passive Keyless entry is where you can keep your car keys in your pocket (or purse) and you touch an area to lock and unlock the doors, or shake your foot underneath the vehicle to open the trunk area. One bonus of passive entry systems is that they generally include Keyless Ignition. Keyless Ignition lets drivers start and drive their car without the keys ever leaving their pocket.
Even though they return similar results, Remote Start and Keyless Ignition are not the same. Keyless Ignition lets you start and drive your car without the need for a regular key. Remote Start lets you start your car through your key fob or mobile application. Remote Ignition is useful in extreme temperatures such as very hot or very cold days by letting you start the car and help cool it off when it’s hot. You will never get into a cold vehicle again, simply use the Remote Ignition and heat it up before you leave.
A Smart Key is an electronic way (fob, smartphone app, key card) that is used to access your car remotely. The buttons for your wireless functions are located on the Smart Key itself. A Smart Key then sends signals to your car to open the trunk, lock the doors, and so on. Some Smart Keys are even connected to the anti-theft system and won’t allow the car to start without them. With so many convenient and fun options available on Smart Keys, why would you want anything else?
